Fine Botanical Art

Botanical artists would draw or paint flora as a means of documenting and identifying plants. I am more fascinated with observing flora and sharing the beauty found within plants through line, form, tone and pattern.
My compositions emerge organically, magnifying delicate detail and intertwining intricate layers, with the intention of encouraging the onlooker to take a closer look.
In this range I have used fine pen to create an authentic, yet contemporary feel to these pieces. I was inspired to use black ink on white paper following the discovery of a family autograph book, where artists had used ink, in a stylized and expressive way.
I hope that my drawings also offer a way to appreciate and preserve the ephemeral beauty of flowers and plants through lasting visual representations.
